Photo Session Date: April 11, 2010
Photo Session Location: Strasburg, Virginia
Photo Session Details: Dylan and William, two adorable fun-loving twins, turned 5 years old this week. Their parents requested that I take some portrait photographs of them prior to their actual birthday. Dylan and William had just returned from a week long trip to Disney World and were excited to tell me about their trip and all the Disney characters they met. We held the portrait session outside in the back and front yard with a few quick posed shots inside. The twins were very cooperative and we even included one of the family dogs in a few photographs. I think Dylan and William’s favorite part of the session was when I asked them to try and hit my camera with their toy football to get some action shots…they hit me dead on a few times!

Photo Session Date: April 3 – 4, 2010
Photo Session Location: Winchester, VA and Linthicum, MD
Photo Session Details: Now that my girls are getting older (23 months and 3.5 yrs), I am beginning to have a lot of fun re-igniting holiday traditions I once did as a child. My wife and I planned a little easter egg hunt for them in our backyard on Easter eve. We filled some plastic eggs with small goodies (toys, treats, money) and hid them around a fenced section of our yard for the girls to find. Once I let them loose out the porch door there was no stopping them! Of course we had to make sure the 3 yr old didn’t find all the eggs, but the younger one held her own. The next day we traveled to Linthicum, MD where my mother held another small egg hunt for them (along with their second-cousin Joe…the youngest of the group). The kids had a lot of fun, and naturally went into a sugar coma during the drive home after having snacked on their goodies for most of the day.

Photo Session Date: March 26, 2010
Photo Session Location: George Washington Hotel, Winchester, VA
Photo Session Details: The community college I serve as photographer for held a dinner event at the George Washington Hotel in Old Town Winchester, VA last week. The purpose of this event was to connect donors with students that have benefited from the donor’s contributions by way of scholarship. I love photographing this event as I am often able to capture the warm emotions and lively conversations held between donor and student. This was the first time this event was held at a location off college grounds, which excited me as I love photographing different venues. The hotel was very classy with some unique architecture…especially several very large mirrors located in the dining hall. The night was capped off with a wonderful musical performance (guitar and harmonica) by two students.

This series is part of an on-going 26-week project entitled the ABCs of Photography in which I take a few photographs each week centered on on specific letter of the alphabet.
M is for Map - I took this photograph of a map while visiting the Health Professions Building of Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. I turned the corner to go down a hall and was confronted with this giant, wall-sized map. Naturally the first thing that popped into my head was this will be perfect for my letter M photograph!

Photo Session Date: March 21, 2010
Photo Session Location: Old Town Winchester, Virginia
Photo Session Details: I met Tiffany and Chris on a beautiful Sunday morning for their engagement photography session at the quaint walking mall in Old Town Winchester. For those unfamiliar with the walking mall, it is a mix of shops, restaurants and historical sites located in the heart of the city. The street is lined with beautiful 18th and 19th century buildings that make for great pictures. This was my first time holding an engagement session in Old Town Winchester and I know for certain I will be back there again! Being an early Sunday morning, there were not too many people on the streets, so we had a lot of room to work with for many of the photographs. It was a great way to start a Sunday morning and Tiffany and Chris were naturals when it came to posing for the camera!

Photo Session Date: March 19, 2010
Photo Session Location: Winchester, Virginia
Photo Session Details: This past weekend featured the first three-day stretch of gorgeous weather of the spring season – sunny and low 70s. Everyone and everything was outside enjoying the weather, including our pet russian tortoises! My wife placed the three tortoises we have outside to spend some time basking in the sun and snacking on tasty fresh green grass. I grabbed my camera and took a few photos of one of our tortoises. I’m not sure which one it is, but I’m sure my daughter could tell you since she gave them their names (Sherma, Duncan and Stripe Pumpkin).

Photo Session Date: March 6, 2010
Photo Session Location: Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, Winchester, VA
Photo Session Details: Karen and Michael are getting married next month and all of us wanted to work in an engagement photo session prior to the big day. The winter weather has been atrocious this year with record snowfalls. Fortunately, after weeks of bitter cold we were fortunate to have scheduled the session for the first nice weekend of the year. We held the photo session at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, VA which is home to a lovely art gallery and beautiful gardens when the flowers are in bloom. While photography is restricted to the first floor of the museum due to the artwork located on the second floor, we made the most of the opportunity and took some photos inside the main building and around the outside area bordering the gardens. It was still a bit chilly outside, but Karen and Michael were troopers and a fantastic couple to work with!
