Sketch Name: Frog and Laughing Fly

Thoughts While Sketching: Do you ever feel like you have a lot to do and would rather be elsewhere getting it done than stuck in the middle of a group socializing? That is how I felt when I sketched this quick cartoon. The drawing was done with a clean felt-tip black marker, so I decided to quickly colorize it for fun.

Where and When: Sketched during a meeting

Thoughts While Sketching: I’m not really sure what to say about this one. This is a cartoon / sketch that I fleshed out during a meeting. As far as I can tell it is some faceless character about to stick a lit piece of dynamite into a toxic container. Perhaps I wasn’t keen on the idea being discussed during the meeting and this is my brain’s way of communicating that visually.

Client: A Community College in Northern Virginia

Project Details: This piece is a brochure (with a business reply card) that I designed to help promote an educational center in Luray, Virginia. The brochure’s goal was to raise awareness of the educational center to those residing in the surrounding counties.

Photo Shoot Location: Northern Virginia

Photo Shoot Date: Summer 2009

Photo Shoot Details: I was asked to take several promotional shots of construction workers to be used in conjunction with the promotion of a new building on the Web and in printed materials.

Project Details: A long-time client of mine (wishing to remain anonymous for this post) contacted me to see if I was interested in creating an illustration for his one-year old son’s first birthday party. The client informed me that he and his wife wanted to place an illustration of their baby boy on the front of invitations to a first birthday party they were planning.  The only requirements the client had for the illustration were that their little one should be interacting with one of their pet sheep dogs on the front of the card. The client provided me with a photograph of their child which you can see below (permission has been granted to post this photo):
