Photo Shoot Location: Richmond, Virginia
Photo Shoot Date: August 24, 2009
Photo Shoot Details: I traveled to Richmond for part of a tw0-day conference and stayed at the Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel. Despite being very tired that evening, I happened to venture outside with my camera. I was glad that I did because it was a picture-perfect night. The hotel’s landscaping was very unique, and the lighting combined with the moonlight sky made for some very attractive photographs.

Client: Local Phi Theta Kappa Chapter
Project Details: A local Phi Theta Kappa chapter (PTK student honor society) at a nearby community college requested that I design a logo for their fundraising campaign to be launched in the fall of 2009. The premise and slogan behind the campaign is “Your change can change lives”. This slogan comes from a story told by the chapter’s advisor of how he collected spare change in a jar to help fund a family member’s College education from when she was born until she graduated high school.

Sketch Name: Baghead Sports Jersey Guy Cartoon
Thoughts While Sketching: This sketch was spurred initially by the professional football fans that wear bags on their heads when their teams are horrible (Saints fans, I’m looking at you). That is where the bag head and sports jersey portion of the sketch originates from. I wanted to put something in the character’s hand, and the broom was the first thing that came to mind.

Photo Shoot Location: Winchester, Virginia
Photo Shoot Date: August 8, 2009
Photo Shoot Details: During the evening I often spend time outdoors with my two daughters (one and three years old). This particular evening we were chasing moths around a bush in our backyard, when a monarch butterfly happened to flutter on by. It would land on flowers nearby, and fly away once my three-year-old rushed over to see it. She said that she wanted me to take a photograph of it, so I did not want to disappoint her. I waited for the butter fly to land, and snapped the above shot.

Photo Shoot Location: Middletown, Virginia
Photo Shoot Date: August 5, 2009
Photo Shoot Details: I took this photograph around 6:20 a.m. in Middletown, Virginia. The colors of the sun and the sky caught my eye as I was driving towards route 11, so I had to park my car on the side of the road and snap this one. My pants got a little wet from the morning dew on the high grass, but it was well worth it.

Sketch Name: Angry Twitter Bird
Thoughts While Sketching: There seems to be a lot of ranting and venting that goes on via Twitter. I know I see many-a-tweet from those I follow ranting about computer problems, political issues and everyday annoyances. This sketch of a twitter bird reflects that mindset when rant-a-tweeting (new term!).

Sketch Name: Sleepless Haunted Owl
Thoughts While Sketching: It was raining outside and for some reason I was having thoughts of Halloween and haunted landscape scenery, which explains the backdrop here. The owl character popped into my head out of nowhere, and it really reminds me of a rejected McDonalds fry kid / fry guy.

Client: Riddle’s Hedgehogs (Christie Riddle)
Project Details: My wife often likes to take advantage of my passion for design. She used to run a very successful rabbitry, but has since decided to migrate over into breeding hedgehogs. Whenever she established a new venture, she asks for me to design her logo and promotional materials. Being she is my wife, I naturally charge nothing (aside from maybe a day to lounge around the house and do what I want!). Her only requirements for the logo was that it try to include the colors of brown, grey (hedgehog colors) and maybe a hint of purple (her favorite color).
