Photo Session Date: December 28, 2009
Photo Session Location: Capon Springs, WV
Photo Session Details: Ayron and Alana will be getting married this spring at Capon Springs, West Virginia. Residing in Massachusetts, Ayron and Alana picked this date to hold the engagement photography session as they were in the Virginia area visiting family and friends for the holidays. According to the Capon Springs Web site, "since the 1840s, guests have journeyed to Capon Springs seeking rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. Nature's gifts of woodlands, water and food provide the perfect setting to experience the bounty of resources here." This was my first-ever visit to Capon Springs and there was still some snow on the ground from the two feet's worth the Virginia / West Virginia area received two weeks prior. Slushy snow and cold weather aside, a good time was had by the three of us getting to know each other...and Ayron and Alana are complete naturals when it comes to having their picture taken together!

This series is part of an on-going 26-week project entitled the ABCs of Photography in which I take a few photographs each week centered on on specific letter of the alphabet.
I is for Invertebrate - This letter was a struggle for me. I thought of plenty of words...ice, iron, ink...but wanted to do something a bit more creative. The other day I was sitting at home thinking about all the unique animals in my house when our hermit crabs popped into my head. Then it hit me...Invertebrates. For those who do not know, invertebrates are animals without a skeletal structure. This includes crustaceans which the hermit crab is a species of. Our hermit crabs come from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Ocean City, Maryland. One neat little fact I learned while writing this post is that 95% of all animals on the earth are invertebrates. Interesting!

H is for Hedgehog - Since my wife is a hedgehog breeder, I naturally had to use a hedgehog for my letter H choice. I jokingly refer to them as "hedgepigs" sometimes to get a chuckle out of my wife. They are in reality a very nice pet - easy to care for, quiet, clean and cute! They do require an environment that is at least 70-72º as this specific type of hedgehog is native to Africa and needs very warm temperatures. If interested in one prepare to be patient...my wife's waiting list is over 8 months long!

Photo Session Date: December 24-26, 2009
Photo Session Location: Winchester, Virginia; Pasadena, Maryland and Saxton, Pennsylvania
Photo Session Details: The excitement of Christmas used to be unbearable as a child. I remember the days inching along as it grew closer to Christmas Day. A week seemed like a year, a minute on Christmas Eve night like an eternity. That excitement faded as I grew up and entered my college and bachelorhood years but has been invigorated by having two children who are becoming old enough to truly understand the special time of the year that is Christmas. My goal as a camera-toting father is to capture some of that excitement through photography. The photos below are this year's results.
